The show headliner for the 1999 Seattle Banjo Festival will be Dick Martin, a plectrum banjoist familiar to many West Coast banjo enthusiasts although he hasn’t been to Seattle before. He has performed in shows at Sonora, Palo Alto, San Jose and Sacramento, California; Caldwell, Idaho and Sweethome, Oregon; at F.I.G.A Conventions and the Mid America Banjo Rally. His repertoire includes traditional banjo tunes, popular songs, show tunes and classical music, played in his own pleasing style. He will be accompanied by his wife Helen, an artist on washtub bass.

Dick began playing in 1968 when his father, Ralph started the Southern California Banjo Band. After a year of lessons he began playing professionally and has performed on the pizza parlor circuit, in night clubs and at Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm and Universal Studios.

Although he now lives in Carriere, Mississippi, he maintains his membership in the Southern California, Peninsula, Oakland and Sacramento Banjo Bands.
